Running Commentary — Morning Milkshake
Jennie: I LOVE THIS GOCHU JABCHAE SO MUCH
I. When Did You Make Your First Milkshake Suho's pure question was actually my question too. Did you read my mind? Hahaha
II. His Morning Voice Was Soft and Crackly I was startled when Dr Yeon's raspy voice played vividly next to my left ear. I laughed for ages at how ridiculous I was being HAHAHAHA. Dr Yeon and that raspy voice — why do they go together so perfectly? When these two puppies reunited in their early thirties at Suho's place near Anguk Station (to be precise, the first floor is Suho's office and the second floor is where he lives — your brick-laying friend is thoughtfully reminding you hahaha — the soundproofing isn't great, but the neighbours probably won't complain much since I'm the neighbour), after staying up all night watching soccer and then going to the bedroom for nighttime activities that were more fun than soccer, when they woke up in the same bed in the morning — "that's exactly the voice you'd expect" hahaha.
III. The Blanket Made a Sigh Maybe it's because my imagination runs wild, but I could picture in detail how the blanket sighs. Really, my brain's capacity seems unlimited in this regard hahahaha. I imagined the blanket as fluffy and soft like cotton candy that you'd only experience in hotels, but considering how often it would need washing HAHAHA, I thought of thin linen instead. There are actually lots of laundromats in the city. Somehow I pictured Suho's place only having a small mini washing machine, and for blanket washing, he'd make time once a week on Sundays to use a laundromat like "Cleantopia" near his house. I can picture Suho sitting cross-legged reading the newspaper for about an hour while the laundry runs, checking stock market conditions.
IV. His Mind Had Not Yet Travelled Far from Sleep How can you express it like this? "His mind had not yet travelled far from sleep..." It's not that I have a rich imagination — it's that your writing ability is excellent, making me imagine things naturally.
V. Mr Ahn's Breathing This is more effective than a hundred words describing the fireworks these two puppies lit up at night... (my eyes are getting teary with emotion.) It's truly poetic and beautiful. Si-eun from his college days and Suho who worked tirelessly — their twenties were beautiful and somewhat heartbreaking, but after their reunion, you can feel in your bones how they have more stability while their love has deepened.
VI. Morning Exercise Reading this whole chapter, I was laughing so much I thought I might faint from happiness hahaha. What a lovely morning this is! Dr. Yeon joking "you don't make reservations" is so Si-eun-like that I was grinning for ages. Honestly, without your brilliant talent and excellent vocabulary curation... it could be robotically described as "the two puppies had morning urges like adult men" hahahaha, but describing such a vanilla morning between "lovers" like this is really thanks to your shining talent. It's absolutely delicious!
VII. Suho Persisted Mr Ahn's persistent morning campaign. Reading this scene HAHAHA, I randomly imagined what if Dr Yeon started the morning mischief first? I read through it quickly at first and then carefully today, and when I read "completely direct Si-eun" at the end of this delicious soup, I giggled, imagining Si-eun would probably start right away without notice. Dr Yeon's hand going "swoosh" down to sleeping Mr Ahn's boxer briefs... even when "grabbing" he'd be fearless. Then Mr Ahn getting "attacked" out of nowhere: "Mmm...?" (How to wake up Mr Ahn on weekends.) I imagined Mr Ahn wakes up at dawn on weekdays — that diligent routine would be completely ingrained in his body. Since he works outside a lot, in summer the sun gets too hot after noon. That's why I set up the brick theory that all work ends at 1 PM. After finishing work at 1 PM following dawn work, Mr Ahn lightly solves lunch — eating sundae — and where do his footsteps head...?
VIII. Spanish Ham Here, we call this "spam" — this kind of ham sold in cans, even given as gifts during holidays. I heard that overseas, canned ham like this is considered instant food and avoided for not being nutritionally good. We eat it as a side dish a lot, and I still eat this "canned ham" when I need to quickly solve dinner.
IX. Mock Irritation I almost fell off my chair laughing at this phrase. Even if a fire alarm actually went off, Dr Yeon would forgive anything Mr Ahn does and always pretend to be annoyed while unable to hide the smile on his lips. So cute.
X. Suho Had Apologised, But Not Before Laughing Himself Silly The saying that couples who never stop laughing will never break up comes to mind. I hope this reunited "suspicious couple" laughs to their heart's content before going through trials. (My inner demon's tail wagging.)
XI. McDonald's That Morning I remember talking about McDonald's with you, Asuka, before. Ah... it's already romantic.
XII. The Loose Grey Sweats The biggest flaw and characteristic of grey sweatpants is that when they get sweaty, the colour changes completely, right? Hahaha.
XIII. Dr Yeon Huffed Out He's panting but Dr Yeon never orders Suho to "stop." So cute. Hahaha.
XIV. His Mewling Friend As expected, Dr Yeon is whimpering but nowhere in that whimpering is there a command to "stop." Delicious hahaha.
XV. Curls/Bliss Air conditioning is probably already running everywhere, but I can picture the hot country sisters fanning their flushed cheeks with their hands. You'd agree too, but I've never seen anyone who dislikes reaching bliss in the morning. The legendary military doctor Dr Yeon — even the genius boy is no exception, which makes me happier than joyful hahaha.
XVI. Sweet-Salty / The Signature Vanilla of Its Maker Last time I said it would be sexy if Dr Yeon learned to smoke in Iraq and secretly smoked when Mr Ahn wasn't around, but then Mr Ahn couldn't have failed to detect the nicotine content.
XVII. Cream Whether it's movies or dramas... when watching any work, personal experiences that have accumulated inside me get mixed into the appreciation. The various emotions — bewildering, funny, and others — from those personal memories when you've truly made someone you love happy in the most primal way and saw the byproduct, those memories flashed through my head reading this passage. This chapter's words and flow are so poetic that like Suho, I want to archive it on a blog to treasure it for long.
XVIII. He Kept in His Heart of Hearts, "Suho" I'll be muttering this part while staring into space on my commute all next week. My boss has already noticed that my concentration has been "on a business trip" for several months. Is it because we know all the narrative of these two "suspicious friends"? If there had been no divine intervention and Suho had actually died... I think high schooler Si-eun would have been institutionalized. While texting sleeping beauty Suho with perfect spelling, rationally accepting that he couldn't wake up, Si-eun's heart of hearts would still be busy calculating even a slight possibility with that genius brain.
XIX. It Was All Wind, No Vowels Asuka, it really feels like such a shame that only I get to taste your talent. I've never heard sexier "moaning" than this. I swear. From this sentence to "the fifteenth" I watched with my mouth covered (I liked it so much).
XX. Little Si-eun Would Dr Yeon — from high school Si-eun onwards — ever in his life breathe out so "defensively" with his right arm "thrown" above his head like this, except in front of or "under" Suho? The point here is "defensively"... This is more than a cigarette made of sexy pheromones. So sexy and delicious (crying because it's so good).
XXI. Allowed to See Oh my goodness! Hahaha I just wrote above that "only Suho can see this defenseless Si-eun" and sure enough, Mr Ahn also knows this fact annoyingly well.
XXII. Suho Also Kept This to Himself So very Suho-like. It matches too well with how I interpret Suho's character. So, so Suho-like. I love this sentence itself.
XXIII. A Puppy-Like Pose, a Goofy and Earnest Smile Seriously, this goofy expression of Suho's is also something only Si-eun knows, right? Remember how Suho acted like a "big brother" to other friends during Byeoksan High days. This kind of aegyo is also Si-eun's exclusive privilege. When playing with various bricks, I think that during Si-eun's Iraq deployment, Suho wouldn't have bothered rejecting the flirting of pretty ladies around him. And Si-eun, being a guy, would have coolly passed over just guy things. Still, even when briefly meeting pretty ladies, he never would have shown this goofy aegyo — that was one of my brick theories. And those ladies would have gotten tired of Suho's bluntness first and angrily "dumped" him. Shouting things like "You only meet me to sleep with me, right?" Suho would just sit there blankly receiving angry shouts. Haha in some ways, he's also an annoying and mean "a certain handsome guy."
XXIV. Lucky Beast Si-eun, this is just a "genetic" "blessing." It's inherited from parents, so there's nothing you can do about it.
XXV. "I'm So Happy I Met You, Yeon Si-eun" Oh... my goodness. I just wrote about the "blessing" God gave them!
